About Kay
Kay Lima creates bold, large-scale abstract paintings. Working from the mountains of Colorado, she translates the complex landscape of human feeling into sweeping brushstrokes and fearless color combinations that demand attention and invite contemplation.
Though formally trained in music, Kay’s artistic foundation runs deeper. She was immersed in creativity from childhood by parents who were both artists. This early exposure to creative expression, combined with her musical background, brings a unique rhythmic sensibility to her canvases. Her self-taught approach to painting has allowed her to develop an uninhibited visual language, one that prioritizes authenticity over academic convention.
Each painting becomes a meditation on the act of moving through emotions – not around them, but directly into their depths. Her bold brushwork and saturated palette create compositions that feel both spontaneous and deeply considered, capturing moments of emotional transition with remarkable visual impact.
In her studio practice, Kay embraces the full spectrum of human experience, allowing joy, grief, anger, and wonder to guide her hand. The resulting works invite viewers into their own emotional journeys, creating a dialogue between artist and audience that transcends the canvas.
